Shabih Haider

In Memoriam: Shabih Haider

Shabih Haider was proud to carry a professional tool kit with him for the first seven years of his engineering career. During his university years, he completed summer jobs in Germany, which gave him the foundational confidence and strength that only hands-on experience can provide. He always held a distinct advantage in his academic work due to his extensive, diversified field experience across multiple engineering sectors. Over his career, he earned deep practical experience in field communication, marine navigational aids, building management systems, and wide-ranging international travel.

It was this experienced hand that fitted so well with the largest engineering consultancy firm in Pakistan. Throughout his journey, he continuously built upon his academic qualifications alongside his practical career. In addition to his multi-disciplinary experience in consultancy, project management, marketing, teaching, and general management, he also earned specialized foreign technical training and held degrees in BE (Electronics), MBA (Marketing), MS (Finance), and M.Phil (Economics).

Possessing a remarkably diversified educational background and field experience, Shabih Haider guided generations of students and businesses across various industries. In 1997, he transitioned from core engineering to join both academics and his family’s pharmaceutical and consumer goods marketing enterprise, which was founded by his brother. He served as the Financial Controller and Company Secretary until 2004, when, following the untimely passing of his brother, he assumed the role of Chief Operating Officer for the subsequent seven years. During his tenure as COO, he successfully steered the company through a significant turnaround and a period of sustained growth.

Beyond his corporate and academic contributions, he was a respected literary figure, publishing original poetic works as well as highly regarded translations from Turkish literature in magazines of repute. His literary legacy includes the translation of a Turkish novel and a full season of a popular Turkish television series broadcast on the Hum Sitare channel. A true bridge between cultures, he was also invited as a guest speaker by the “Friends of Rumi” in Konya, Turkey, during the annual Shab-e-Uroos programs in 2023.
